Once you’ve cleared immigration and grabbed your bags, look for your friendly local guide and driver waiting for you in the arrivals hall. They’ll whisk you away for a smooth transfer to your hotel in the heart of Ulaanbaatar. Depending on your arrival time, you may have free time to rest or explore the city. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. This will be your official introduction to authentic Mongolian cuisine. After dinner, return to your hotel for a comfortable overnight stay. Meals: D
Day 2 Elsen Tasarkhai (Mini Gobi)
After breakfast, depart westward from Ulaanbaatar and journey deep into the Mongolian countryside toward Elsen Tasarkhai, often called the “Mini Gobi.” This unique region is one of Mongolia’s most scenic landscapes, where golden sand dunes stretch alongside green grasslands, rocky mountains, and grazing nomadic livestock. Upon arrival, experience a traditional camel ride across the peaceful dunes and take time to explore the surrounding desert scenery. You may also hike to the top of the dunes for panoramic views of the vast steppe and changing desert colors. Along the way, witness the authentic nomadic lifestyle as herder families move freely across the open plains with their animals. As evening falls, arrive at a traditional Mongolian ger camp. Enjoy dinner in the tranquil countryside and spend your first night in a cozy ger beneath Mongolia’s clear, star-filled sky. Meals: B, L, D
Day 3 Kharkhorin & Tsenkher Hotspring
After a relaxed breakfast, continue toward the ancient city of Kharkhorin, once the capital of the Mongol Empire during the reign of Chinggis Khan. Here, visit the historic Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist monastery, built beside the ruins of the former imperial city. Surrounded by ancient walls and temples, the monastery offers a fascinating glimpse into Mongolia’s spiritual and historical heritage. In the afternoon, continue to Tsenkher Hot Springs, nestled among the forested hills of Arkhangai Province. Known for their natural healing properties, these geothermal springs are the perfect place to relax after the journey. Spend the evening soaking in outdoor hot spring pools surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery before dinner and overnight stay at the camp. Meals: B, L, D
Day 4 Khorgo Terkhi National Park
After breakfast, journey deeper into the scenic landscapes of Arkhangai Province. Along the way, stop for lunch in Tsetserleg City before following the picturesque Chuluut River, famous for its dramatic basalt canyon formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. Upon arrival at Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park, explore the extinct Khorgo Volcano crater and walk among ancient lava fields, volcanic rocks, and hidden caves shaped thousands of years ago. Later, visit the peaceful shores of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, also known as the “Great White Lake,” surrounded by mountains and alpine scenery. Enjoy free time to take photos, walk along the lakeshore, or simply relax in the fresh mountain air before dinner and overnight stay near the park. Meals: B, L, D
Day 5 Shine Ider Village
After breakfast, continue your journey toward the remote northern regions of Mongolia. Today’s drive offers some of the country’s most beautiful and untouched scenery as you travel through endless grasslands, mountain passes, rivers, and small nomadic settlements scattered across the steppe. Because the journey to Khuvsgul Lake is long, this overnight stop allows for a more comfortable and relaxed pace while giving you the opportunity to experience rural Mongolian life away from tourist crowds. By afternoon, arrive in the quiet village of Shine-Ider. After settling into your accommodation, enjoy free time to unwind, explore the peaceful countryside, or relax in nearby natural hot springs. Dinner and overnight stay in the village. Meals: B, L, D
Day 6 Khuvsgul Lake (Arrival & Shore Relaxation)
After breakfast, continue north toward the breathtaking Khuvsgul Lake, one of Mongolia’s most beautiful natural destinations. Along the way, stop in Murun City, the provincial capital, for lunch and a chance to experience local northern culture and markets. By afternoon, arrive at Khuvsgul Lake, famously known as the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.” Surrounded by dense pine forests and the rugged peaks of the Saridag Mountains, this pristine alpine lake contains nearly 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water. After checking into your lakeside tourist camp, enjoy free time to relax along the crystal-clear shoreline, take in the fresh mountain air, and admire the peaceful scenery as the sun sets across the lake. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp. Meals: B, L, D
Day 7 Khuvsgul Lake (Boat Tour & Reindeer Herders)
After breakfast by the lakeshore, begin a scenic boat trip across the crystal-clear waters of Khuvsgul Lake toward Khusliin Khad, a sacred rock formation connected to local legends and traditions. The boat journey offers stunning views of the surrounding forests, mountains, and untouched wilderness. Later, enjoy a rare opportunity to visit a Tsaatan reindeer-herding family, one of Mongolia’s most unique indigenous communities living in the remote northern taiga. During the visit, learn about their traditional lifestyle, spiritual beliefs, and close connection with reindeer and nature. Gain insight into how these nomadic families continue to preserve their centuries-old culture in one of Mongolia’s most isolated regions. Return to the camp in the evening for dinner and another peaceful night beside the lake. Meals: B, L, D
Day 8 Erdenet City
After breakfast, begin the journey south toward Erdenet, one of Mongolia’s largest and most important industrial cities. Known for hosting one of Asia’s biggest copper mines, Erdenet provides a different perspective on Mongolia beyond its nomadic landscapes and wilderness. Along the way, enjoy changing scenery as forests and mountains gradually give way to rolling steppe landscapes and urban surroundings. Upon arrival, explore the city atmosphere and learn about its important role in Mongolia’s economy and modern development. After dinner, settle into your hotel for a comfortable overnight stay. Meals: B, L, D
Day 9 Return to Ulaanbaatar & City Tour
After breakfast, you will begin your journey back toward Ulaanbaatar. After several days in the wilderness, the return drive offers a final chance to enjoy the vast Mongolian steppes as the scenery transitions back to the city skyline. You will arrive in the afternoon and check into your hotel, giving you plenty of time to relax, catch up on messages, or take a hot shower.
