Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1Ulaanbaatar Arrival
Dinner
Welcome to Mongolia! Your journey kicks off at Chinggis Khaan International Airport. Once you’ve cleared immigration and collected your bags, look for your friendly local guide and driver waiting in the arrivals hall, who will transfer you smoothly to your hotel in the heart of Ulaanbaatar. Depending on your arrival time, you may have free time to rest or explore the city. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant — your official introduction to authentic Mongolian cuisine. Overnight at your hotel. Meals: DDay 1 - Ulaanbaatar Arrival
Day 2Terelj National Park
BreakfastLunchDinner
After breakfast, drive to the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue at Tsonjin Boldog — the tallest statue of its kind in the world. From the observation deck near the statue’s head, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding steppe while learning about Mongolia’s history. Continue to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, known for its dramatic granite rock formations and picturesque valleys. Visit the famous Turtle Rock before taking a 30-minute horseback ride through the scenic landscape to Aryabal Meditation Temple, followed by a short uphill walk to the temple itself. In the late afternoon, attend a Mongolian nomadic cultural presentation, learning how families live in gers, produce dairy using age-old techniques, and meeting local eagle hunters. Meals: B, L, DDay 2 - Terelj National Park
Day 3Elsen Tasarkhai (Mini Gobi)
BreakfastLunchDinner
After an early breakfast, drive to Elsen Tasarkhai, often called the “Mini Gobi.” This unique landscape features golden sand dunes blending with green grasslands and rocky hills, creating a striking contrast of scenery. Enjoy a camel ride across the rolling dunes on a two-humped Bactrian camel, then visit a local nomadic family to learn firsthand how they live in gers, adapt to seasonal changes, and care for livestock following centuries-old herding traditions — with a chance to taste local dairy products. Relax in the evening before spending the night in a traditional ger. Meals: B, L, DDay 3 - Elsen Tasarkhai (Mini Gobi)
Day 4Kharkhorin & Tsenkher Hot Spring
BreakfastLunchDinner
After breakfast, continue toward central Mongolia, visiting the ancient city of Kharkhorin, once the capital of the Great Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Explore the historic Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist monastery, known for its beautiful architecture, ancient temples and peaceful atmosphere. Afterwards, drive through scenic valleys and rolling hills to Tsenkher Hot Spring, where you can relax in natural mineral hot springs surrounded by tranquil mountain scenery — an ideal way to unwind. Overnight at a tourist camp near the hot spring. Meals: B, L, DDay 4 - Kharkhorin & Tsenkher Hot Spring
Day 5Khorgo & Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park
BreakfastLunchDinner
After breakfast, drive toward the breathtaking volcanic landscapes of Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park. En route, stop at the Arkhangai Museum to learn about the region’s history, culture and nomadic heritage, then continue to the dramatic Chuluut Canyon, shaped by volcanic activity and river erosion into spectacular cliffs. Upon arrival at the national park, hike to the crater of the extinct Khorgo Volcano and enjoy panoramic views of lava fields, forests and Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake below. Overnight at a tourist camp. Meals: B, L, DDay 5 - Khorgo & Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park
Day 6Ugii Lake
BreakfastLunchDinner
This morning, depart for the peaceful surroundings of Ugii Lake, one of Mongolia’s most scenic freshwater lakes and an important habitat for migratory birds. Enjoy a relaxing drive through the vast Mongolian countryside, observing nomadic herders and grazing livestock along the way. Upon arrival, take time to enjoy the calm atmosphere, beautiful lakeside scenery and birdwatching opportunities — depending on the season, many species of water birds can be seen around the lake. Spend a relaxing evening by the water before overnighting at a tourist camp near the lake. Meals: B, L, DDay 6 - Ugii Lake

A perfect introduction to central Mongolia
★★★★★• Apr 2026

This tour covers so much ground without ever feeling rushed. The Chinggis Khaan statue was more impressive than photos suggest, and camel riding at Elsen Tasarkhai with green grass right next to the dunes was such a surprise. Great pacing throughout.

Erdene Zuu Monastery was the highlight for us

History lovers will adore Kharkhorin. Standing where the Mongol Empire’s capital once stood, then relaxing in the Tsenkher hot springs that same evening, was a fantastic combination. Our guide’s knowledge of the region really brought it to life.

Hiking to the crater rim and looking down over the lava fields toward Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake was breathtaking. Ugii Lake the next day was the perfect calm contrast — birdwatching right from our ger camp. Excellent value for 8 days.

From nomadic family visits to the folk concert on our last night, this tour balanced adventure and culture really well. The ger camps were more comfortable than we expected too. Would recommend to anyone doing Mongolia for the first time.
