Nomadic Homestay

About This Journey

Experience Mongolia’s nomadic culture from the inside out — through ger stays, horse riding, camel trekking, traditional food, and real time with a local herder family. Spend your days in Erdenesant learning to build a ger, milk cows, make Buuz dumplings, and herd livestock alongside your hosts, then explore the ancient capital of Karakorum and the golden “Mini Gobi” dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai. This is Mongolia’s nomadic life, not as a spectator, but as a participant.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar Arrival
Welcome to Mongolia! Your journey begins at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, where your local guide and driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar. Depending on arrival time, enjoy free time to rest or explore the city before a welcome dinner at a local restaurant — your first taste of authentic Mongolian cuisine. Meals: D
Day 2 Journey to Erdenesant & Nomadic Immersion
Depart Ulaanbaatar and drive roughly three hours through the open countryside to Erdenesant. Meet your nomadic host family and settle into the traditional ger camp. Spend the afternoon learning about the nomadic lifestyle and help assemble a traditional ger, discovering the structure and meaning behind Mongolia’s portable homes. Later, join a hands-on cooking session to prepare traditional Tsuivan noodles before sharing dinner with the family. Meals: B, L, D
Day 3 Traditional Dairy Culture & Horse Riding
Wake early to experience authentic nomadic daily life by helping the family milk their cows. Learn about traditional Mongolian dairy products known as Tsagaan Idee — curds, yogurt, dried cheese, and fermented milk — and sample the traditional milk vodka, Shimiin Arkhi. After a traditional lunch, enjoy horseback riding across the steppe while helping herd livestock and learning about sustainable nomadic practices passed down for centuries. Meals: B, L, D
Day 4 Karakorum & Elsen Tasarkhai
Travel to the ancient city of Karakorum, once the capital of the Great Mongol Empire under Chinggis Khan. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, the oldest surviving Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, known for its temples, ancient artwork, and surrounding white stupas. Continue to the stunning Elsen Tasarkhai sand dunes — the “Mini Gobi” — where dunes, mountains, and grassland meet. Enjoy a camel riding experience through the dunes before checking into a tourist ger camp for dinner and overnight stay. Meals: B, L, D
Day 5 Mongolian Cuisine & Traditional Games
Return to your nomadic host family and continue the cultural immersion. Learn to make traditional Mongolian Buuz dumplings together and enjoy the meal as a family. In the afternoon, ride horses across the steppe and join in traditional Mongolian games such as Shagai (ankle bone) games and other local activities, capped off with another peaceful evening of nomadic hospitality. Meals: B, L, D
Day 6 Deeper Nomadic Lifestyle Experience
Spend your final full day fully immersed in authentic nomadic life — helping the family herd livestock across the open steppe, milk cows, and assist with daily household tasks. Enjoy more horseback riding while learning deeper about Mongolia’s seasonal movements and the way of life passed down through generations, before a relaxing final evening in the countryside with your host family. Meals: B, L, D
Day 7 Return to Ulaanbaatar
